PBT (Polybutylene Terephthalate) fiber is a new polyester fiber came out in 1970s, it initially attacked people as a engineering plastics with excellent property. PBT fiber not only has PES' durability, dimentional stability and wet state tenacity, and nylon' s soft hand feel and abrasion resistance, but also has better dyeability than polyester and nylon, it can be dyed in normal pressure. The production and types of PBT The production process of PBT fiber is similar to PET, there are two routes of producing PBT, transesterification method and direct esterification, the latter is widely used. PBT chips can be used for producing drawing yarn, low and high elasticity yarn, low speed spinning or high speed spinning, paralleling bicomposite yarn, imitated spandex modified PBT yarn. Main products in Japan are Finecell of Teiiin, Sumola of Toray, Wonderon of Unitika. In America, the main PBT product is Celanex of Celanese company. In Japan, PBT is fine denier fiber, mainly used in production of swimwear, underwear and panty-hose. PBT yarn in America is a little thicker, mainly used in stretch denims and sports wear. In Europe, the major company is Hoechst in Germany, its PBT stape fiber was mainly used in carpet production.
